SGF IVF Cycle - BCP Caused Cyst?

Anonymous
Just started my first IVF cycle, the day of the baseline monitoring after being on BCP for 3 weeks they found a cyst. I never questioned why I was on BCP, and asked if it could have caused the cyst - they said no. I've had three more monitoring appointments since then and the cyst remains (though my E2 has been dropping). Has anyone had experience with this?

* I read through the board and it appears that there is some relationship, and that BCPs are actually not required before stims? I'm trying to wrap my head around this. So overwhelming.

So BCP do not cause cysts. In fact they are often the treatment for cysts. But it is also true that you don’t have to take bcps prior to IVF. They are taken for two reasons, mainly for scheduling purposes, but also to promote even follicular growth by preventing the development of a lead follicle. BCP can be bad if you have diminished ovarian reserve though because they might over suppress you. In any case, cysts are really no big deal. It sucks because it could delay you if it’s producing estrogen, but they are common and nothing to worry about.

Thank you, this makes sense. How do you determine if you have diminished ovarian reserve?
