1st grade teacher who makes frequent grammatical mistakes

Anonymous
Our kid's teacher frequently makes grammar mistakes. She is not a native English speaker. NOTHING against ESL (my husband is ESL, my kid is bilingual) but I don't understand how one should be teaching such young students if this is the case.

Don't call me an A-hole. I just cannot stand hearing frequent mistakes over virtual and do not want my kid picking them up.

I saw this in my child's American-born and raised (and FCPS-educated) first grade teacher. I take it as a sign of how poor the American educational system is right now - if our 20-something year old teachers can't speak and write properly, how on earth are they supposed to teach our children????

Unfortunately I see tons of spelling, grammar, and math mistakes from native speaker teachers too.
I think your kids will be fine. They will soon start to notice and correct her though. She better not teach older grades, too. They won’t correct but will snicker.

At least they made it through college.
I am on an unemployment help board and it hurts my eyes to see how people write. I keep
Telling myself they probably worked menial jobs but why knows?
A lot of uneducated people

I sympathize, op. Next year the teachrr will change and your kid will be fine.

OP here. Simple things like "Now what YOU are going to do now, Sally?" (What are you going to do now?) Not complicated things.

I'm sure kiddo will be fine but THIS on top of the substandard learning in virtual is just driving me crazy. Plus this lady is not fun at all compared to the other teachers, no sense of humor, etc etc. It just makes me sad.

I’m an asshole, too. Every week we get an email from the teacher (younger grade) to the effect “remember Library will be on Tuesday’s and gym will be on Friday’s.”

Let it go. This teacher is one of MANY your kid will have. Your kid will not be sullied by this teacher's errors. At any rate, the school year is almost done.

Buy your kid some headphones and learn how language acquisition work.

I would send a correction to her on something like this. Gently, of course.

No! Don’t do that. Trust me, I’ve been tempted to correct teachers as well, but nothing good will come of it. You will be hated!

My 3rd grader's teacher had spelling and grammar issues on a math quiz last week.. my child couldn't understand the question. I've given up at this point.
