I don't want to cook anymore

Anonymous
I am so sick and tired of prepping meals 3 times a day. I am trying to gather energy to start dinner for tonight but I really, really don't want to cook. I already ordered takeout last night so can't pull the same schtick tonight. Sob.

I love cooking but I feel this way too. I try to keep lots of staples for a picnic type meal once in awhile. We usually have some variation of summer sausage, tuna, dolmas, pretzels, cheese, pickles and fruit which can be tossed on a cutting board. I also do at least one night of leftovers. We do take out once or twice a month.

Me too. This week we've eaten frozen buffalo chicken strips with veggies on the side, frozen pierogies with cabbage and onions, and will be doing similarly processed easy things other nights. I'm just phoning it in, there's nothing I want to cook or eat other than cookies, no inspiration.

Maybe next week?

I've been ordering takeout but adding lots of lean protein, vegetables, and fruit.

scrambled eggs or yogurt, toast/crackers/popcorn, and fruit or veggies (canned, frozen, or raw) is a totally reasonable dinner!

Or PBJs.

I cook one meal a day. Period.

A meal kit has really taken the thought process out of it. You should give one a try.

Buy tortillas. Most anything can be made into leftovers by shoving them into tortillas. Ditto salad- chicken and portables for dinner one night? Next night eat them over salad.

Make chili and pasta on Sunday night- eat separately over two nights and then together (chili mac!).

Pitas are another easy staple- melt with cheese for pita pizza. Stuff with tuna. Dip into hummus. Three meals.

I was going through this phase. So, i just don't cook at lunch or breakfast. Eat whatever you want, I don't care. Eat some cereal if you can' figure it out. Make your own omelets. Here are some deli meat and greens.
That's how I felt like. Eat some ramen noodles if you want.

You just need a break. After a week or two I need to become creative again. That's how I am. Make use of a crockpot, dump everything in there. Make a chili. Eat the chili with cornbread/bread one day and another day on pasta. Any chili leftover will be combine with a can of beans and make tortilla/quesadilla/burrito versions.

Order for take out when you have feel stressed. But, after a few days, I realize that what we ordered is not enough variety, so i go back to my own creative cooking.
Or cook enough pasta for 2 days. One day, open up a jar of red sauce and mix it with ground meat. Another day, open up a jar of pesto and mix it with the remaining pasta. That's it.
And don't clean up afterwards. Leave that to whoever that didn't cook.

I don't cook breakfast or lunch. We have cereal, oatmeal, yogurt, frozen waffles, toast, etc. People can scramble eggs or whatever if they want. Lunch is leftovers or make yourself a sandwich or something. I plan and cook dinner.

OP, who lives in your house, and what other responsibilities do you all have? Are you cooking 3 meals a day while other able-bodied people (including children past preschool age) lounge about and expect you to wait on them?

I don't cook breakfast or lunch and I'm still sick of cooking. ugh.

Cook larger quantities and re-heat leftovers. I often repurpose leftovers by adding various things, or making a new sauce, adding a different carb, etc. It's easier than cooking a whole new meal from scratch.

We do take out one night per week, on a weekday. I cook the other 4 weekdays, spouse cooks on weekends. Only cooking 4 nights per week makes it less bad. Breakfast and lunch are on your own. Kids can make cereal, eat oatmeal, cook eggs or eat pancakes or waffles from the freezer (leftover from double batches made on weekends).

Always have cooked pasta in the refrigerator, plus cut up fruits and veggies, plus bread/rolls and sandwhich fixings. Also have chicken nuggets and meatballs from Costco in the freezer. Anyone can hear them up if they want a hot lunch (or make grilled cheese and tomato soup, like we did today).
