Moving from Loudoun to Fairfax county

Anonymous
HI, We are planning on a move from Loudoun to Fairfax County mainly for the schools. The Area we live in currently does not have a very good ES. We have looked at moving to Churchill or Wolftrap school area. But I am not sure which one would be better. The house prices between the two schools varies so much.
I would really appreciate to see some inputs about the good school areas and about areas other than these schools too. My only concern is that I want to move to a school area where ES,MS and HS are all good.

I would love to hear to see if there are any other options we should be looking at. I wouldn't rule out Rockville area either (Convinient for work). Any and all help is truly appreciated

My Kids are 3 and 5 and the 5 year old is in private Kinder now.

Not sure I'd really move from Loudoun to Fairfax "mainly for the schools" as there are good schools in both counties. As between the Churchill Road and Wolftrap areas, I'd move to the Churchill Road district if I worked in Rockville and could afford it just to be closer to Maryland.

As to the schools, both Churchill Road and Wolftrap draw from high-income areas (Churchill Road a bit more) and have great reputations. The differences are really more at the high school level: Churchill Road feeds into Langley and Wolftrap splits between Madison and Marshall. Each of these high schools is very good and regularly recognized in national publications, but they have a different feel: Langley kids have lots of money, with the pros and cons that entails; athletics are very big at Madison; and Marshall has a more diverse student body and lower test scores than the other two schools.

We're doing the very same thing....we're in Broad Run HS pyramid and looking to move to Woodson, Madison, Oakton or McLean HS pyramids. Have been hearing very positive things lately about Oak Hill ES in Herndon area as well as Greenbriar West ES in Fairfax, though, as well. Good luck with your search.

All but a handful of the high schools in Fairfax County are considered better than Broad Run HS, so you'll have plenty of options.

Amen to that...Loudoun simply doesn't have what Fairfax County has.

If you think you'll be working in Rockville a long time, you might consider looking up there. Richard Montgomery High school is supposed to be great, and housing prices around Rockville seem pretty similar to those in Northern Fairfax County. I think taxes are a little higher, and I don't know anything about the elementary schools in the area, but some friends of mine live in the King Farm development (they started with a townhouse and moved to a single family home there) and love it.
