Security Clearance Time

Anybody here have a TS/SCI.
I got a job offer for that requires one. It's been 14 months since I filled out the paperwork and one year since I was interviewed by an investigator and I'm still waiting to hear back. Is this normal. I don't have a straight forward background and lived abroad, but I think it's crazy that it takes this long to get a clearance. How long did it take you (people with TS/SCI).

This is normal. Mine took around 15 months from start to finish and I was told I was one of the lucky ones. The TS and SCI are adjudicated separately so that is one cause for the delay.

The times had gone down, but with covid, staffing is not regular.

Is your credit bad? Recent drug use? Relatives in a high risk country? Sounds like your app hit a snag and you’re going to get a Statement of Reasons soon.

I assume that's telling me i've been denied. I have dual citizenship and relatives abroad. So I wasn't expecting lightning speed process, but i'd like to move on with my life and not wait forever here. So if they want to deny me, then do it already.

Don’t believe that PP. They don’t know what they’re talking about. TS//SCI clearances can take a very long time. Just keep waiting.

Not unheard of. They should be willing to tell you the status of your case. Sometimes calling your member of Congress (constituent services) can light a fire under them.

You cant have dual citizenship and a clearance?? When i did they made me provide/lock up my passport to my security office and never use it. Had a colleague in the same boat and he asked for it back to use to go to see his dying fsther in his home country snd lost his clearance. I got rid of my non us citizenship. They really look at foreign contacts and trav now for all levels. And 12-15 months is normal for TS even in the before times.

Are all TS/SCIs processed by the same system, regardless of the employing agency? Is one year + from the background investigation normal these days? If that happens then it will have been over 2yrs and 3 months since I applied for the job Really hoping it will be sooner.

No. The TS/SCI first involves getting the TS -- an SSBI investigation and adjudication by OPM (or someone).

The SCI is a readjudication by the issuing agency (e.g., DIA, CIA, NSA, etc).

I agree that it can take years to finalize a TS for some agencies, but it is not accurate that you cannot have dual citizenship. You absolutely can have dual citizenship and a TS clearance.

Thanks. Found this source that reports that in 2019 Q4, the fastest 90% in the adjudication phase by DCSA for initial TS clearances took only 43 days. https://federalnewsnetwork.com/contractsawards/2020/02/progress-on-security-clearance-backlog-is-real-but-federal-contractors-still-seeking-end-to-end-solutions/
