We’re thrilled that our nanny can get vaccinated and, of course, will give her all the time off she needs. She’s scheduled to get it in the morning - if she has side-effects, when will she feel them? I hear the second shot is even more prone to side effects.
How are you all planning for coverage if your nanny feels awful? |
Play it by ear but have just-in-case coverage for two days after the first and two days after the second. I hear that’s when you’d feel poorly and feverish IF you have side effects at all. Lots of people feel fine through both. |
I felt awful the day after my first dose (received it midday), but a lot of people don’t.
I would try to be flexible the day after both doses. |
That makes no sense your nanny can get the vaccine but not teachers and other essential workers. I would plan for a few days off. Some react, others don't. |
She should be totally fine with the first dose. It’s the second one that can knock folks out. I’m a school principal, and many teachers received their second this past week. I had several that were out with a 101 fever and/or extreme exhaustion and aches. It happens the next day and lasts for a day. I’m due to get my second dose on Tuesday and made sure I don’t have any big meetings on Wednesday just in case. |
It’s possible her nanny is over 65 otherwise I don’t understand either. |
Can she schedule the vax for a Friday (but I'm guessing you can't be choosy)? That way she can recuperate over the weekend and be back to normal come Monday. |
Most people are grabbing the first spot available and can’t really choose a day. |
+1. You really can’t choose your day or time. I felt fine after my first shot but was knocked on my butt by the second shot which hit about 12 hours after getting it. I coul have worked if I wanted to. Have tentative coverage for two days after he second shot. |
I was fine after the first! My arm was just a tad sore. I’m waiting on my second but my boss had her second and she was out for a day and a half, basically couldn’t get out of bed. She has told me if I feel terrible after my second I will have the day off. |
It hit never hard after the second shot. I was in bed for about 16 hours with a low fever.
Anticipate your nanny will be out for two days after her second shot just to be safe. And then, some friends have had no reaction at all. |
My uncle got his second. Low fever, dizziness and confusion lasted about 14 hours. He wasn’t safe to drive. |
Our nanny will get his vaccine on Fridays for this exact reason. |
Where do you live where it’s possible to choose your date and time to be vaccinated? |
I chose what day/time within a window of several days. Every educator in Fairfax County has this option. |
