What's the most budget-sensible way to find babysitters/nannies?

We have no family here and will need occasional sitters when we go back to work.
How does one find babysitters? We've considered care.com but I don't like that they renew your account yearly without notice and I am not convinced that paying $150/ year just to access profiles is the most financially-friendly option for someone on a budget. Has anyone been successful using other websites or other strategies in general? |
