| Our DC will be graduating from college in a couple months and doesn't have a job lined up yet (Computer Sci major, dean's list GPA). How is the local 2021 for recent grads? Any advice for job hunting ? |
| I can’t speak for the DC-area job market as I’m a professor in the Midwest but one of my students was offered her dream job—until they offered her $12/hr! (Not much above our minimum wage). She declined of course but I was appalled by their offer. |
| Saw a job for an "internship" stating that an MBA was a "nice to have." It's rough out here. My suggestion would be to network like hell. |
What was her major? |
Agricultural economics/Ag Business. |
Daughter is also graduating and no job yet. My advice? Network with alumni. You already have something in common. I try to help fellow graduates any way I can. |
How do they connect with Alumni? |
|
They should get. A security clearance ASAP.
Or go get a job at an Amazon warehouse. Easy to move up/around internally, great benefits and the best way to get a new job is to have a job. |
| You can’t just get a clearance- you need an employer to sponsor you |
| I’d do my best to go straight into a graduate degree to ride it out and exit with better credentials. Livening your parents basement for a year is a bad idea. |
| Anything it is 80-100k |
| I’ve heard that graduate programs are getting extra applications just like colleges. |
| Never start your career during a downturn. Tell him or her to go to grad school. Trust me, I had friends laid off after 1 year or less at Bear Sterns, Lehman Brothers. It was BRUTAL. |
| Hired two recent grads with no experience in their field of study because they were unable to secure a job. |
Wrong, you can hire a company to create a sponsor and pay outright. |
