DC inspection - can kid stay in cars?

Anonymous
Never gotten one before and what is the Covid protocol. Can I get my car inspected and we can stay in the car? Then I can keep my baby in her car seat.
Or do they require you to come out and wait while they inspect it? Then I would have to mask her up / expose her to the cold or find a babysitter...Trying to figure out how to minimize exposure bc we have some people with increased risk in our home.

When I went last month, you have to get out and stand on the curb for about 5 minutes. I would imagine that for liability reasons, they would want your child to stay with you. You aren't close to anyone.

OK thank you. 5 mins isn't too bad. I'll bundle her up.

The curb I stood on was the area inside the garage where they plug into your car to do the check. Just stand about 10' away.5 minutes is probably an overestimate of the time out of the car.

My guess is that while PP may be right because of some liability concern, the inspector also may be fine with you leaving baby in car - they don't move the car, just plug into the OBD (unless it's a really old car).
