In person school will be in trouble if using laptops, kids will just youtube and surf the web

Mark my words, the way these kids use the laptops during school time is going to be a major problem.

Kids are going to surf the web and youtube etc.

It's going to be a major problem and the schools have no recourse because online learning in person is not part of the education curriculum or agreed upon method of teaching as per VDOE guidelines.

How will it be different than before the pandemic?

The public school system doesn’t care about this.

Pretty sure no educator or administrator would be cool with this practice.

Yawn.

Oh look, it's Mr. Parade of Horribles.

Don't send your child for hybrid if you're so concerned.

Mark my words, teachers will not stop posting baseless doomsaying predictions about how badly concurrent instruction is going to be. Suck it up. It's happening. Stop fantisizing about how it won't work and figure out the ways to make it work.

I'm shocked by the people who don't know that FCPSOn existed before this year.

The schools absolutely do have recourse, by the way.

I am a parent and I am very concerned that schools think that extending the online to inperson is going to be a problem, kids are not able to focus online unless the laptops are configured to lockdown all services except for BB. It has been a constant battle because kids are not engaged in online and end up moving on to games, youtube etc. which are all open on fcps laptops.

This online learning was never meant to be a replacement for in-person, it was a stop gap while covid shutdown schools and was never supposed to go on longer than a few months. It is bad.

FCPSOn is a way to teach students how to use technology and online, it is not a method of shifting from in-person and online education.

So are you saying that kids in the privacy of their home aren’t currently doing the same thing? Also, our elementary had kids 3rd grade and up bring in laptops everyday even before the pandemic. Laptops in schools are not new. People need to just stop. We’re returning. If you don’t like it quit or keep your kid home whichever applies to you.

How is that different from virtual learning, OP?

This. Teachers can use GoGuardian when possible, but there will always be work around.

Yep. I teach at the college level and I have mostly moved away from lecturing because all the students bring their laptops and just do other stuff during class. It distracts the people sitting nearby who are trying to pay attention (it's hard to keep your eyes away from a video or interesting website that someone 2 ft in front of you is browsing... pre-Covid of course when the desks were crammed together). Now I do mostly flipped classes where students have to watch videos that I created before coming to class and they use class time to work with each other on problems, discussion, etc. Now they might browse a little if there is some downtime waiting for other groups to finish but I try to prevent that by engaging with the groups that are done early. So this can be dealt with by designing classes a certain way but it's more challenging in this time of social distancing.
