Morning Nanny

Anonymous
This is a post-covid question.

I will be looking for someone to come hang out with my younger kids while the older ones are in school, to allow me some time to do projects/volunteer at school/work out. Is this something a nanny who mostly works for a family with all school-age kids would be interested in? Maybe just a couple mornings a week. And when looking, would it be more effective to post something on Care.com or ask parents I know if their nannies might be interested? (I’d be happy to cede priority if the other kids were gone during the day for some reason.)

A couple of times a week then you’re looking for a babysitter. I only say that because a nanny usually means full-time. These type of part-time babysitting positions are hard to find because that is not enough money to live off unless they cobble together a schedule.

If you live near a college you might be able to find a student that has afternoon classes that would be interested.

Generally, it seems DCUM is in agreement that college students can be flakes. But it seems that you are able to be flexible so maybe it would work out for you.

Look for a sitter on care.com or a neighborhood group. Don’t get enmeshed in a sharing arrangement with a full time nanny—too complicated.

I did this type of job in college and it worked out well. You definitely have to be flexible though (schedule would change semester to semester). I doubt you are going to find a true nanny, but may find a SAHM looking to work a few school friendly hours.
