Have a FTM friend moving there, and would love to link her up with an online/neighborhood group. Anyone know of one?

PP here. This area is very unsafe. Lots of crime. Very run down area. I would not move to the area.

No, but the beaches and dunes 1-2 hrs away in Indiana and Michigan are amazing. I hope she spends all summer going to lake.

Not sure if they know yet. Maybe around Oak Park. Any thoughts about neighborhoods?

My daughter lives in Lincoln Square which is in the northern part of the city and she loves it. Safe, very diverse, many young families.

NPN is similar, there's an annual fee but I think it's worth it, at least for the first year -- https://www.npnparents.org/

I love the Oak Park area. My friend lived nearby in Forest Park and she loved it too.

Oak Park is fantastic. Great downtown area, very short commute to the city.

There are multiple Facebook groups for parents in Oak Park. Probably the largest is Oak Park Working Moms. It's obviously not anonymous, but your friend can get lots of good advice and a sense of the community and many of the surrounding communities.

Even 14 years after leaving D.C., I read DCUM because there's nothing like it in Chicago. Okay, so I'm a federal employee, and that's a big draw.

And a sidenote: Oak Park is one of the prettier Chicago suburbs, but it's close to some not-so-great neighborhoods and a hike from Lake Michigan beaches.

Yep. If you plan to take CTA into the city, you're going to go through some very rough 'hoods.
