We are moving to house that have invisible fence installed. We will need to buy collar and transmitter. Anyone have experience with? Was it easy/hard to train your dogs?
I haven't used one, but looked into it at one point. What I remember is that it tends to work better with certain breeds/dogs than others. Super willful, and smart, dogs with a strong desire to roam sometimes learn that if they withstand the shock, freedom is theirs. Since we have a super willful and smart dog, we decided it was not a good bet for us. What breed is your dog?
Also remember that it may keep your dog in, but doesn't keep other animals out of your yard. If this is a neighborhood where people tend to let their animals (cats, dogs) roam free, that could become an issue.
We installed one at a rental house and it worked well (Chessie). The training was pretty simple and quick. The installation is the biggest pain (we did it ourselves). Not difficult, just tedious. Very effective, though. We still have the collar and transmitter, etc. in case we ever want to install another.
One is Labrador who is sort of smart but not really willful. Other is a rescue dog, guess would call him a "mutt" - he lived on streets for many years so may be more difficult since has a lot of "street smarts" (though we do let off leash in parks to run around and he doesn't run off.) Something for us to think about.....Thanks! |
