Snow day Makeup - recommendation change

I for one am thrilled that Dale has changed the recommendation to adding whole days at the end of the school year instead of 30 minutes extra a day. What are your thoughts? Voting is Thursday at the board meeting.

I'm in MoCo but when I heard about the extra 30 minutes a day I thought it was a good idea. What are your cons for it?

What are the cons to extending the day by 30 minutes???

For starters, my kindergartener is currently dismissed at 4:00 pm... with the bus dropping her off at 4:25 pm. Another 1/2 hour would have her not being dismissed until 4:30 pm, and not getting home until 5:00 pm. Pretty long day when you factor in that she attends before care so that DH and I can get to work on time in the mornings.

In FCPS, the elem schools already go a half hour longer T-F to make up for the early dismissal every Monday.

So... NOT a fan of extending the day by ANOTHER 30 minutes.

Long day for a lot of kids.

There is concern as to whether the additional 30 minutes will actually be used for instructional time. Would the schedule for the entire day need to be reworked to add time to all the classes?

Bus schedules may need to be reworked. Traffic flows are different 30 minutes later. Many buses that normally beat rush hour or just hit the early stages would be dropped smack dap into it.

After school activities would be affected for many students.
