ACPS hybrid 3/16

Anonymous
What did you think of tonight's ACPS school board meeting? Were you surprised to hear that ACPS is reopening in two day a week hybrid March 16? Our family chose hybrid and I have yet to hear from my school. Other friends at other ACPS schools were contacted by parent liaisons or the principal. What is the info? I am wondering about after care options? Was any information given about the logistics or a link to the plan? I had to jump off around 6:45 for dinner.

I don’t think it’s that surprising. It’s a push back from the original 2/25 date for ES. I assume they’ll end up pushing back again, but now that FCPS and LCPS have announced dates they felt more pressure to say a new date.

I’ll believe it when I see my kids actually walk into the building.

I hope I'm wrong but I have zero confidence in this actually happening. They've spent the entire time complaining about how going back to in-person is impossible. Now suddenly they're all for it?

I’m surprised they would start back just before Spring Break. What grades/students are they proposing to return on 3/16?

All of them. (Special Ed and ELL would go back earlier).

So, they’re no longer phasing in with younger grades first? Wow, this should be interesting to figure out in a month (not that they haven’t had plenty of time, but I haven’t seen much planning and don’t have a lot of confidence).

The tone of the meeting last night was way different than before. Unlike the doom and gloom, and excessive remedial man-splaining he excels at - Hutchings sounded optimistic that it was really going to happen this time. I'm guessing the political pressure got to him. The metrics he worships aren't actually that different from last week - and are certainly magnitudes worse than in the fall when none of this was "feasible".

He's an opportunistic jerk, who cares only about himself. I think he sees the writing on the wall and wants to get ahead of the "narrative" - which is basically the science shows schools are safe.

Whatever, I'll take it - my kids need to be in school - I just wish they didn't have to be in his school district.

They've apparently been safe enough for his own kid.

I'll believe it when I see it. As other people have written, ACPS and Hutchings clearly felt pressure to follow the other districts. And after months and months of ACPS saying it was impossible, now they turn on a dime? LOL, OK.

+1. This sudden change in tone is very suspicious.

All of this is 100% accurate.

But all will be forgiven by most ACPS parents as they all continue to pretend that they aren't standing on the deck of the Titanic as it sinks.

It's almost as if extended school closures were never about science at all . . .

Where to then? APS? FCPS? Don't think they'll open this year.

Is there any of this info on the ACPS website? I’m curious what they said about the metrics. At first there were no metrics and now it’s all about metrics, but what if the numbers literally aren’t there? Just curious what the discussion was.

All the details are in the ACPS Express that just came out.
