Hybrid classrooms

Can someone please explain what the classrooms will look like for the hybrid students? I understand that students will have to bring their own laptops and sit one to a desk. I don't quite get how they will engage with the teacher. Is the teacher teaching to them AND the DL students at the same time? How will they interact? WILL they interact at all? I mean is this going to be just like home except not home? Basically will the teacher teach to them or to the screen?

I am a teacher and I have no idea. I’m also am not sure I understand why students come in only two days a week if we are concurrent, and why do they come two days in a row?

Not the answer you want to hear, but it is going to depend by teacher and classroom. Some teachers will be more and less risk seeking with respect to student interaction/proximity, and more or less concerned about equity between online and in-person learners. Also, not all classrooms will have the exact same DL technology.

I’m pretty sure the two days in a row is to accommodate MS and HS students who have the same classes Tues & Thurs and Wed & Friday. You get all your classes Tues & Wed. Or Thurs. and Friday. And obviously only two days a week to accommodate social distancing with all the DCs who chose in person.

Yes, the teacher is teacher both. The two groups will rarely interact but the in-person people will be able to talk and war together - from 6 ft away; but they well pretty much be sitting at their desk all day long.

That's how it works. It is easier done in MS and HS but I imagine it's harder with little kids in the room. They need help with the laptops so the teacher will have to help them.

They are coming in two days a week because we don’t have space for all of the in-person students to be there at once and still meet distancing requirements. For example, I have 18 third graders returning. A teammate has at least 20. All 18-20 can’t be in a classroom at once.

It depends which county you are in. Your post doesn’t indicate.

I meant will the teacher interact with the students in the classroom at all? Or is she still looking and talking into the screen?

They come in 2 days in a row for contract tracing/cohosting purposes. (Rather than alternating every other day—just slightly safer and makes more sense.)

Teachers are being asked to try to do both. Not really feasible to a great degree.

We spoke to our kid’s teacher today about this. She will be teaching both students (in person and online). In person students are expected to stay in their “bubbles”. Specialists will come in the kids homeroom and they’ll eat lunch in their room as well. The kids will basically be at their desk throughout the day. Kids will get recess but they need to stay 6ft apart. She also stated that they will continue to use google classrooms, imagination station, ST math, dreambox, etc.

I want my kids back at school. But the absurd logistics of “hybrid” made us decide to continue DL through the end of the school year. This is the very epitome of “more trouble than it’s worth.” Good grief.

They’d better be in-person starting this fall.
