Infertility Support and Discussion
|
I'm starting to TTC #2 and, given my age and history, want to give myself all the help I can get. I thinking of trying acupuncture to see if that will help - can anyone recommend someone in NW DC? Near Farragut/Dupont would be ideal, but anywhere in NW would be great.
Also, is there a typical time in your cycle that you should start acupuncture? |
| I am going to Lisa Eaves from Heal from Within in Tenley Town. She specialized in fertility and I think she's great. I just started my second cycle with her. You can go anytime during you cycle as she plans each session based on where you are at what is going on with your body. |
| Thanks. How often do you go and how much are the sessions? |
| I second the recommendation for Lisa Eaves. She is wonderful! (And, I am now pregnant...) On average, you go once a week during your cycle. She does stimulating treatments in the first half and calming/staying treatments during the second half. The first appointment is $125, then $75/visit afterwards. Each appointment lasts about an hour. |
| A silly questions: does the needles hurt? |
| They really do not hurt. They are tiny and flexible. You may feel a tiny pinch when a needle is going in -- although probably not with each one -- but it only lasts a second. After the needles are in, you get to lie on the table with relaxing music and a heat lamp for 30-45 minutes - so peaceful! |
| I am the first poster who suggested Lisa. Her rate is going up to 85 after the initial visit. For the poster who is now pregnant. How long did you go to her prior to getting pregnant. How long have you been trying? Did you have fertility treatment? |
| I used Zoe Brenner, she is walking distance from the Bethesda metro) and she was great. Shady Grove Fertility refers many patients to her and fertility/pregnancy is really a specialty of hers. |
| I'm the 17:43 poster. I had been TTC for about 9 months before starting accupuncture and was doing fertility treatments (clomid, then injectibles, with IUI). I got pregnant on my second cycle after starting accupuncture. |
| Has anyone gotten insurance coverage for this? |
|
I also used Lisa Eaves. I got pregnant after my 3rd cycle with her (6th cycle of IF treatments.) And I did get insurance to cover my treatment. Since Lisa was out of network, I paid and they reimbursed me.
Good luck! |
| I used Deb Earley, she practices in Dupont and dwntn Silver Spring. Amazing results...for breast pain, shoulder pain, depression. I am feeling sooooo good! www.earleyacupuncture.com |
| Sorry for the slow response--I haven't been online in a week or so, but if you're still looking Kerri Westhauser is an acupuncturist who has offices at 4321 Wisconsin, and she has worked on my husband for back pain and helped me when my baby was breech prior to birth. She's very low key and approachable--totally relieves needle anxiety, which is an issue for me. Her website is www.kerriwesthauser.com. |
| I use Susan Jensen, who works out of her home in NW DC near the Cathedral. I didn't use her for conception, (although I did go to her around the time I was trying and did let her know) but for various other maladies. I love her, she is super calming and knowledgeable. She is a great listener and will offer other helpful advice if she notices other things from your conversation, posture, etc. that might help. If you google her name + acupuncture + washington, dc you can find her number. |
| I have been seeing Deb Earley...and have had great results for hip joint problems and breast/chest/shoulder issues. Her website is www.earleyacupuncture.com and she practices in Dupont and Dwntn Silver Spring. |
