Reasonable amount of time for a teacher to respond to a student email?

My child emailed his teacher regarding a grade on Friday morning. The teacher has not acknowledged nor responded to the email. In your experience is this normal/appropriate?

Are you in a district that has or hasn't had snow days Monday and/or today?

That is plenty of time (AP here)

If MCPS, Friday was not a school day. It should be fine if the teacher answers today.

OP here. FCPS. No snow days.

One full school day and then I’d be forwarding my child’s email saying something like “not sure if you saw the below message but...”

Maybe she will talked to him doing the next time he has class, if not you should CC the AP, principal, school board members, superintendent, The Vice President of the United States and the president of the United States.

Have him resend it. Sometimes everyone misses an email.

+1

I usually expect one business for a response and often get it sooner. But sometimes the teacher misses the email, and sometimes I've missed a response. It happens. Just send it again.

Make sure your student sent it to the fcps.edu address. If a student emails me using the Google email it will sometimes get lost in to 20 emails I get from Google notifications every day.

I was going to say the same thing. I get about 50 emails a day from students in my FCPS gmail account.

I'd also try to make sure your child used the correct email. It seems as though FCPS teachers have two emails(at least at the MS/HS level)In the beginning of this year,. At my kids MS, the students were using the email that teachers typically do not use. My kid sent two emails(one was a follow up) then went to an office hour to ask the teacher why she had not responded to the email. The next class the teacher went over what email to use to contact her.

Ours does not reply to emails. We wondered why at first and now just have moved on. We heard from another teacher they are getting beyond too many emails a day that sometimes hard to keep up.

If it is fcps and your child used the fcpsschools.net address, send another email to the fcps.edu one. The former address is our gmail account which often receives hundreds of emails a day with classroom notifications. I always tell students to use the fcps.edu one, but they forget.

Also, I don’t think it hurts to send it again. Just be polite. We get so many emails a day and are trying to do grading and lesson planning and teaching... well, most jobs are like that these days. I would first assume it was overlooked or forgotten rather than ignored.
