ACPS classroom monitors

Any idea what trainings these individuals will be required to undergo (other than having a GED)? Reference checks? Background investigations?
I'm concerned. My son has always experienced a fair amount of bullying and teasing at school (he's a nerdy, quirky kid) and I am not sure what qualifications these people will have to address and prevent it.

Don’t worry, they just put that out to make you think they are working to reopen.

This is the job listing. It specifically says no previous work experience necessary. Yikes! There is no mention of a background screening, but I certainly hope that’s a requirement.

This. Look, its babysitting. You get what you pay for. Have low expectations. I doubt they will open so its all a show.

It's all for show just like their silly performance art this summer. I wouldn't concern yourself. Kids won't be going back.

OP here. I am ok with babysitting two days a week if it is qualified babysitting - I really am concerned about my son's lack of socialization, he doesn't have close friends that he sees outside of school (though he had some casual ones at school). But, I want to know that these people are minimally qualified and vetted (as babysitters for a class of kids).

DL still an option, they don’t have to go back. But send them back anyway, sounds like they need to be away from you.

You seem nice.

OP - Socialization is a huge concern for many and absolutely crucial for mental health. But please don't get your hopes up that your son is going back this school year. You may want to figure out a way for him to see (distanced) those casual friends because I doubt ACPS reopens in the fall. Best of luck!

It's interesting. Socialization is the opposite for me. I have thrived during this pandemic and have been largely puzzled by people that have struggled. I am however on the autism spectrum and I found school agony as a kid. I hope that we can remember that this shouldn't be a one-size-fits-all society when SARS-cov-2 is announced an endemic and everyone is on their own with it.

Sure, that is fine and I don't disagree, but it is not really on point for this post, which is about the safety and effectiveness of these classroom monitors, and OPs concerns for her son. Legitimately glad you have thrived, though.

As usual the point of the original post strayed off-topic a while ago.

Bottom line is the classroom monitors will be some of the lowest paid employees in Fairfax county. That should answer all of the questions.

Um, no they won't, because ACPS is not in Fairfax County.

Fair - but ACPS has similar socioeconomic standards so it's kind of the same.

This is a pedophiles' dream. A frantic, desperate search for people willing to watch children after the teachers have refused.

I'm sure nothing will slip past the vetting process.
