(Unconscious?) intentions and manipulations

Anonymous
Someone a few weeks ago created a thread speculating on how contrived the SB decision-making drama might be. Is it like World Wide Federation Wrestling? Are they deciding who is the bad guy and good guy in advance? Is this all a farce to con the public into thinking some folks are working on a RTS plan when, in reality, no one is?

It is easy to dismiss this as the conjectures of a conspiracy fan theorist, but I think the hypothesis has merit particularly if one examines what these people may be doing while not being completely aware of what they are doing. Intentions have a force all their own, even when they aren’t claimed by the individuals who act on them.

Lately, my attention has been riveted on Braband as the mastermind who is, most likely, unconsciously, conducting this three ring circus. He could be helping rein the school board in; instead, he deliberately fans the flames by offering up plans with obvious flaws (that he know will instigate futile School Board debate) or by giving airtime to the most incompetent and unreasonable voices like FEA lady or Dr. Gloria. He knows “mistakes,” “logical flaws” and “misinformation” are the perfect bait for the highly educated and compulsively perfectionist overachievers who populate the SB. They can’t help but pounce on it. It is like they are cats and he is the one holding the laser pointer. It is an ingenious way to dodge blame that should be rightfully owned, instead.

I think Brabrand is well out of his depths.

Never look for a conspiracy in anything that can be explained by sheer incompetence.

This. His original return to school plan was a joke. They mitigation plan they have now looks well thought out. But, it took almost a year. My kids college had a similar level mitigation plan by mid to late summer. Because as soon as kids left campus, one team focused on the spring and one on RTS. They had people making choices before they knew if mask wearing was mandatory or if they could manage recess.

He needed a project manager. And the SB asked him to get one at every meeting. The decision to ask every teacher for a preference was astoundingly bad and is the reason we are where we are.

He kept posting plans an hour before SB meeting and blindsiding them.

The decision to put 100% into DL and not restart RTS for the first month of school made it impossible to return school before Christmas. Many places with many fewer resources planned for a virtual start and hybrid return at the same time. FCPS has the resources Brabrand to have two teams with parallel goals.

The SB was micromanaging him. But, if you listen to the meetings, that’s because his plans have obvious holes.

The SB planned to go ahead with TJ admissions change and renaming this year. Which was tone deaf to say the least when kids are t in the building. Fall SATs and PSATs. happened in FCPS. 8th graders could have sat for the PSATs or had a TJ test administration. TJ admissions should be considered. Schools should be renamed. But not when they claim they don’t have the manpower to plan Hybrid return while planning DL.

Brabrand is unbelievable out of his depth.

Agreed, but he does have one obvious skill. I see post after post about selfish teachers and evil teachers unions. I see anger at the dysfunctional school board and sympathy for “poor Braband” who keeps offering them option after option that they won’t approve. Even the Washington Post seems to follow his train of reasoning when trying to single out who to blame for schools’ failure to open. What galls me most is the “union” narrative, that there us some collective teacher force organizing an unofficial strike in FFX county when, it actuality, it is solely the fault of Braband’s mismanaged HR department. They are the ones who make decisions regarding the coordination and “deployment” of staff, not the faculty members themselves. You don’t think allowing Kim Adams and no other teaching association representative to “speak for the teachers” isn’t a tactical move?

I agree he is out of his depths but he is doing one move spectacularly well - covering his own ass.

Me again - tho I like the expression - when you hear hoof beats, it’s probably a horse and not a zebra. I think that’s essentially the same thing.
