It is becoming increasingly clear that Covid is not going to completely go away anytime soon. A study just found that one of the vaccines is only 50 percent effective against the new variant just found for the first time in the US (in SC).
We can continue as we are only playing local GA/ECNL clubs for the foreseeable future or the ECNL could allow the GA clubs into the ECNL. I don’t think anyone is going to want to go stay in a hotel full of soccer teams again anytime soon? |
You're kind of in the Henny Penny camp but I'll follow along cuz it's a frigid Friday. If we are going to continue our current COVID mitigation protocols, I think it is more likely that ECNL would simply realign the conferences to allow for single day, out and back schedules. That might be problematic for some of the conferences but for the east coast, completely possible. ECNL may add a handful of GA clubs but I don't foresee a dramatic combining of GA and ECNL to allow for more efficient scheduling along these lines. I don't see the league allowing the number of game cancellations without an adjustment. |
That vaccine is not among those that have been approved and was less effective with conventional variants as well. The Moderna vaccine was effective against the South African variant, but less so than against the conventional. They are creating a booster to cover the new variant. If you are above 80 percent effective, though, you are pretty damned effective. Absent evidence that the variant is more lethal or otherwise harmful, I don’t think this changes the calculus that leagues and clubs faced when they played and no vaccines were available. I do take your point on hotels and some people will undoubtedly be more cautious about all of their activities. |

Now this is what is interesting...Maryland has the 5th highest density of persons per square mile of all 50 states however Maryland is 44th out of 50 in CoVid cases per Million. Youth soccer games allowed including 11v11. Only one parent allowed per player at games. No masks while playing.
Virginia is 14th highest density of persons per square mile however Virginia is 43rd out of 50 in CoVid cases per Million. Youth soccer games allowed including 11v11. Only one parent per player at games. Masks not required while playing. Florida (and we all know about Florida's CoVid Policies) ranks 8th in population density and 30th out of 50 in CoVid cases per million. That is actually pretty impressive for a State that has mostly remained open, similar to Maryland and Virginia. Youth soccer games are allowed, even 11v11. More than one parent allowed. No masks while playing. And for those that are curious, California ranks 11th in population density and is 24th in CoVid cases per million with some of the toughest policies in place. California also has the worse numbers of the "Big 3". Youth soccer games not allowed. Now, to play advocate for for tougher policies, New York, known to have the toughest, does beat both Florida and California in this metric but not Maryland or Virginia. In conclusion, from what I see, I think Maryland is the "Happy" medium here both with tough vs open policy and in youth sports. Outdoor youth sports with little physical contact does not spread CoVid and I think it's obvious at this point. Neither do tougher policies. To finish, the PCR testing values just went from 40 to 20 last week. That is why we have seen sharpest nose dive yet in positive cases this week. It's also winter time, which is when virus' spread the most. |

Is MD allowing out of state teams to play down there? PA ECNL teams are scheduled to come down next month- can't get a straight answer from my club if it's on or off.. Any info would be helpful. thanks

| COVID isn’t a big deal. |
The last thing i saw said that PA and Delaware are not "quarantine states." It was dated December 29, 2020. But i don't think MoCo can play full field. we still have a 25 person limit. You can probably play in Howard. |
| TX had three major event planned this month that were only cancelled because of snow. FL had two ECNL events in January and I can't recall any COVID breakouts. |
It kills many people and not justs old people. Younger people like my family member die and it is a quick, lonely, bad death. Do not fool around with this virus. |
|
ECNL doesn’t care about GA nor should they. People so desperately want to stay on the GA team but play in the ECNL.
It’s not happening. Feel free to love...or not |
| you can always chance it with the Sputnik vaccine. any takers?? |
Your kid with even a 5% loss in lung capacity from COVID isn't going to get a college scholarship vs. another kid who didn't have it. |
You are not going to get a scholarship if you aren’t playing. Nor should you. |
