What should I do for my 4 year old’s birthday?

Husband wants to do a day trip or something involving a car (we are carless and would have to rent one; I find that to be stressful with a preschooler and a 7 mo old).

I want to indulge my kid in my (unstressed) attention (which he hasn’t had much of due to pandemic and baby brother) and in all the small things loves locally - playing soccer with papa, getting a pastry at the bakery, playing at a new playground, pizza and a family movie. And of course cake and presents.

WWYD? Any local DC -ish spots that a four year old would LOVE?

Sorry just read you are NOT looking for a day trip. Whereabouts are you so we can direct you to gems near you?

Send your 4 year old on a treasure hunt. Hide clues in different places with easy riddles, and have some fun treasure at the end.

Have you been to the Reach at the Kennedy Center? If it's a sunny day, you could bundle up a bit and do a picnic outside. It's a neat space and there are fun green areas for kids to run around and play. Lots of room for blankets so you could chill on the ground with the baby. And I believe the cafe there is open now, so you could get him a special drink or food item, or just pick something up at a favorite spot on the way.

It's also a great spot for photos and I know I like to get lots of good photos with my kiddo on her birthday. The last time we went to the Reach I got really fun ones of her rolling down the hill and playing around the sculptural structures there.
