DS used to get a generic Concerta with "Alza" on the pills. It was perfect! It used OROS technology and was just like name brand Concerta for DS. Now, we cannot find them anywhere anymore.
Concerta costs us $511/month. We need a good generic. So far the one from Northstar is awful for DS. It's like he's not medicated at all. When it comes to Concerta, all generics are not the same. 1. Anyone have one that works, that doesn't say "Alza" on them? 2. How is Teva? 3. Even better, anyone in VA able to find the generic Concerta with "Alza" on the pills????? What pharmacy? |
| I think there was a recent post on this. The other one people like is called "patriot" or something along those lines. |
|
The only “authorized generic” is currently made by Patriot Pharmaceuticals, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Janssen (jannsen produces Concerta) . The “authorized generic” made by Patriot Pharmaceuticals is the only Concerta generic to use OROS, Concerta's patented extended-release technology. I found that Virginia Hospital outpatient pharmacy has carried it
I called patriot customer service and they helped me find a pharmacy - I will say CVS, Walgreens was zero help I found Safeway carried it but not the correct dosage - good luck.... For more information about Patriot products, to place an order, or discuss returns, please contact: Customer Service at 800-631-5273. |
We used to get it at Safeway but then they stopped. I will try that number. |
Can you get anything from Teva currently? We had to switch from the Teva version of Focalyn and that was not fun. |
No idea. My friends mentioned their DS uses Teva Concerta generic so I am asking if it's any good. |
| Definitely call the number provided above. I haven’t had to yet, but I will if we find ourselves unable to get it. We started at Walgreens, then they stopped carrying it, and we found Safeway carries it. Then they stopped, and oddly the same Walgreens is back to carrying it without any pushing, though there is a note on our account that we only want Patriot and they frequently have to order it. Supposedly, any Walgreens can order it; you just have to ask for an “exception process.” Read this website. She updates on this issue fairly frequently. https://adhdrollercoaster.org/adhd-medications/authorized-generic-concerta-update-6-1-19/ |
Thank you! I just called the lady was so nice. Someone will get back to me in 48 hours. I pray there is somewhere near me. Although, I'm willing to travel to get it. Do you mind sharing which Walgreens (address) is back to carrying it without any pushing? If I'm lucky it's near me! |

That's not far from me at all! Do you have to say you want the "authorized generic" when you hand in your Rx? What is the process?? OMG! I pray this works! |
| Just out of curiosity how does this work? A doctor writes a Rx for Concerta and sends you on your way? Or do they say, make sure when you fill it that it's one of the generics that works? Or does the Rx say Patriot generic only on the Rx? |
|
TEva was the authorized generic prior to Patriot. It is no longer the authorized generic - just an FYI.....
Our doc stated authorized generic "only" unfortunately CVS stated that it was TEVA - which it is not even with "proof" they would not budge.... |
Our ped writes it for “alza only,” and then I also tell them I want Patriot. I remind them each time, but it’s also in my DS’ profile. |
When Safeway used to fill the "alza" pills I would tell them each time and they put a note in my file as well. That worked for a year. Then one day . . . they said "we can't do that anymore" and we had to switch to name brand Concerta. |
I get alza generic in Bowie guess thats a good thing? I dont particularly like Concerta honestly. Vyvanse was better, which is what I was on before Concerta. I will say that the longer I take Concerta the more I like it but I have to take it at a very particular point of the day and if I dont, then I have insomnia issues. I didnt have that side effect with Vyvanse. |
