Summer camps?

Is anyone scheduling summer camps for kids? Do you think we’ll be in better shape by then? I’m hoping we’ll all be vaccinated by the Summer. Or at least have the option to get vaccinated.

We decided to sent our oldest to 3 weeks of sleep away camp. They are doing a pretty strict Covid bubble, which we felt was safer than a day camp where he comes home every day. He also hasn’t had the chance to just be with kids his own age (he will be 8) and we thought that this will give him a chance to catch up on some socializing. It’s not for all 8 year olds, but I think he will be happy.

I’m desperately hoping Summer SACC will be open. If not, we might try the local martial arts camps.

Yes, older one at sleepaway camp for four weeks and youngest at sports day camp. Already registered.

One kid is signed up for 3 weeks of sleep away, and the other 1 week. I think I'm ok with that. They have a pretty solid plan for small groups, outdoor dining.

Then we are signed up for several other weeks of day camp. That makes me more nervous because of kids going back and forth and taking other vacations and seeing family etc.

So I'll see what it looks like comes summer. I don't know what we will actually go through with.

To those who already signed up for sleep away camps, are the camps offering refunds in case they have to shut down?

Yep, already signed up for one--camp was full as of New Year's Day soon after opening, but we were lucky to get a spot off the waitlist. (I think they're running very small groups, which is why it was full as soon as it opened for registration.)

Will sign up for some more weeks once registration opens at a couple other camps.

I have a 5th grader. Have signed them up for Fairfax collegiate, game camp nation, and a Fairfax county park authority camp. Probably also a Bach to rock camp.

Kid has found several Outschool teachers/classes they like, so will likely have a couple of at-home weeks with Outschool class in am and pm.

I am hoping Fairfax US Arts opens, if so will try to sign up, not going to do virtual there as it would be kid’s first time.

No away camps this summer, will bump to next year.

They did last year, so they will this year too, but I don’t expect that they will shut down. DC went last summer with social distancing and it was great. No outbreaks. They did refund the youngest campers’ tuition because they couldn’t have everyone attend with social distancing.

We’re signing up for summer. Soon to be 8 yo is over COVID and being stuck in the house. It’s starting to affect her emotionally. She sad, lashes out and is just becoming feral. I think camp will help make her feel better. She wants to do soccer, swim and gymnastics and we’re fine with that.

We all are at this point!

We are signing up with 2 camps. They have lower ratios this summer so I think they'll fill up quicker this year. One opened last summer and the other refunded. I only had problems getting a refund from one camp last summer and i eventually got the refund through my credit card company and won't be using them again.

Yes, but you may have trouble finding sleep away camps with spots left. We signed up in November and barely got a spot.

Many of the camps elected to allow campers deposit and tuition carry over for this year due to covid. That means that pretty much all of them are full with a waitlist. I would get on it ASAP if you want to find something.

We are sending two of our kids to sleepaway camp. I know they will not have the option to be vaccinated.
