Preschool and Daycare Discussion
| Rock Spring Children's Center, a non-profit daycare and preschool in Bethesda Maryland, is very excited to announce that it has started construction on 2 new infant rooms which should be ready sometime between mid-May and mid July with a target opening date of June 1. The new rooms will double the number of infant spaces for the ages of 6 weeks to 18 months, bringing the total to 24 (2 rooms of 6 infants, and 2 rooms of 6 mobile babies). We are hopeful that this additional capacity will allow us to better serve a community where quality infant care is tough to find. That is wonderful news...this area needs it.
I have a question. Will you be able to accomodate the higher number of infants in your older rooms when they're ready to move up? How are you handling the larger number of children in the older rooms? |
| I am not OP, but I think that the answer is that the older classes have higher ratios so they already accommodate more 2s and preschoolers than there are infant spots. |
|
Also not OP, but a current Rock Spring parent. Right now, there are 2 classes of each age group except the young infants and the older infants. So, there are 6 infants who move up into 6 older infant spots. Those 6 older infants move up into one of 2 toddler classes of 9 each (18 total spaces). With the new rooms, they will have 12 older infants moving up into those 18 toddler spots. So, I would not expect a problem.
Speaking as a current family, we are extremely happy with the care and the learning that happens there. We recommend it to everyone who asks. |

10:56 poster again...
That makes sense that they alread have room to accomodate... I was curious if it was the start of a gradual expansion of all "grades" as the larger infant class moves along....next year toddlers expand, then two's, three's, etc. |
| yes that's all good but be prepared to pay an arm and a leg!! I wonder if they take vouchers. OP do you know if they accept state subsidies for working parents who need good care but can't afford it? |
Again, they are no more expensive than their peer centers, i.e. Sugarplums, Children in the Shoe, Wonders, Childtime and Family Academy. |
| I think they do take subsidies. I know of a parent who was applying to get them and I really doubt they would care where your funding comes from. |
Yeah, but RockSpring doesn't provide lunch! gggrrr.... I'm not a pp, but I do think it's a bit overpriced by comparison for that reason. |

Re: Lunch - It is available for an additional charge of $75/month if I remember correctly or you can do only pizza day or every other Tuesday or whatever for a per diem. We don't do the monthly lunch, which is why I can't recall exactly what the charge is - we do Friday pizza, which my children consider a treat. Many of the other infant care places also do not include lunch (the Shoe, for instance). RS tuition does include morning and afternoon snacks and milk with meals, as I think they all do. Honestly, I like the ability to not be charged for lunch and make my child's lunch - it's cheaper and I have more control. And the difference between the centers (up to $200 in some cases) cannot be explained away with the fact that they don't provide lunch.

| I don't think these other places that were listed provide free lunch either. |
