We had success tonight with Veggie Patch Chick N' Nuggets! He won't eat meat so I thought I'd give these a whirl for some extra protein at dinner time. He is loving them! This particular brand was the only kind they had a Safeway, but I have a Whole Foods nearby as well. Which are the most nutritious?
We like the Trader Joe's soy nuggets. A little dry, but you could cook them up with some oil.

We eat Morningstar brand occasionally, though they are super high in sodium. Boca brand is also tasty, same sodium issue. Whole Foods has a brand called Quorn--made from mushrooms, I think. The texture is more rubbery than the others, but also less salty. All have decent amounts of protein.
If your child likes fake chicken nuggets, definitely try fake pork sausage--Morningstar makes great veg breakfast links and patties. The Bethesda Trader Joes has these fake meats for the lowest prices I've seen (even lower than Target). |
The Veggie Patch ones weirded me out--how is it possible for something to stay edible for months (check out the expiration date)? I thought real food was supposed to spoil after a while (except for things like crackers and loose tea leaves).

Quorn...my 3 yr. old eats them up! I don't eat meat but my husband is still a carnivore, and after eating a fake nuggest, he was pleasantly surprised at how good they were. He'll make a meal out them.
Boca also came out with chic nuggest. Also very very good. |
I second Quorn and add another recommendation for Ian's chicken nuggets. I switched from the soy varieties to these two.
Quorn products are excellent. We've used the roast, cutlets, and tenders. No soy, just mycoprotein. Really good for a vegetarian chicken/turkey alternative. We try to avoid processed food but sometimes we need the option.
Another vote for Quorn. I love them! So does ds.
Where you do buy Quorn? We like the Morning Star ones but agree...they have tons of sodium if you care about that.
Whole Foods and MOMs (My organic market). They taste like the real thing!
