This seems like a minor issue but Montgomery County really needs to fix this

There's no way to tell what's really in the county's agreement with the police union, because it's not written down in a comprehensive or correct way. Seems like a recipe for cheating and confusion.

It's not a minor issue. The fact they have two different contracts and the COUNTY doesn't even know what's in the FOP one is a big money suck every time they file a grievance and pull out some magical document they swear is part of the contract.

It's a train wreck. I think they should just cancel the entire thing and start from scratch.

What is crazy is that it was absolutely worse in the past. The FOP used to claim the power under the CBA to overrule policing policy changes, like body cameras and it had to go to a county-wide referendum because Ike Leggett and the council were too chicken to just go and tell them to stuff it directly. There is also some crazy provision about early retirement for disability that I recall was bonkers because nearly every officer was doing it.

I honestly wish they would look at the firefighters next, because fire chiefs are consistently the highest paid county employees - around $300k per year.
