postpartum care for tearing?

Anonymous
I have second degree tears from my recent birth. The hospital sent me home with witch hazel pads and a peri-bottle. As well as a regimen of Tylenol and Motrin. Do you have any other gentle care/recovery suggestions eg: products or other ideas?

Donut pillow.
Order a box of the ice packs they had at the hospital off of Amazon.

I am so sorry.

+1. I also sat in a shallow semi warm bath everyday. Good luck, OP. And congrats on your little one!

Dermoplast spray!!!!!!! I had second degree tears and I LOVED that spray. Do you have the ice pack perineal pads? Those were really nice too, especially at the beginning. If you’re not already taking stool softeners (Colace is what I was given), definitely start now.

The spray, the ice packs, colace, donut pillow. Not much more you can do other than pain killers. If it’s any consolation, I had third degree tearing and I still love my 6 year old anyways.

That spray was a life saver.

If it pulls get it looked at quicker. I had horrible infected, tight stitches. Once they snipped them open everything felt better. Mine must have been a botched job. I have huge lumps and it looks gross even 3 years later. Kinda embarrassed me during sex. I only had a 2nd degree tear too.

The sitz bath with water as hot as you can stand it. I added holistic herbs that I found at a crunchy mama store. But I think the thing that helped the most was REST. Do not crouch down, club stairs, etc as much as possible.

Sitz baths, colace, earth mama perineal spray. Rest rest rest. I’ve been there - good luck! It will eventually get better but does really suck.

Had a 3a tear with my first and a 1st degree with second.

Warm water in the peri bottle. When I went I the bathroom I used a clean washcloth to blot myself dry after using the peri bottle. Dermaplast spray and then witch hazel pads on hemorrhoids. Going to the bathroom was an ordeal for a while but I felt markedly better around 3 weeks with both. 6 months postpartum with the second and things feel entirely back to normal

The spray is good, and also soak a maxi pad in witch hazel and water and then put it in the freezer, then tuck it into a pair of depends.

In two weeks you don’t even notice it.

If it’s not a lot better in a couple weeks, get it checked out. I didn’t know what to expect with mine and waited 5 weeks before deciding something wasn’t right. Turned out my body was rejecting the stitches, so they were not dissolving. My OB manually removed as much as she could and recommended a sits bath with epsom salts for 15 minutes at a time, 3 times a day. It all healed fine in the end, but I wish I had gone in sooner.

With a cloth in your hand, slightly push in to support the area when going #2 to counteract the outward pressure on the area and the stitches.
