My tailbone (area) has been hurting for about 6 months but I haven’t fallen and I don’t sit around that much (I have a toddler who is constantly busy). If you have experienced something similar, what kind of doctor did you go to?
I ended up getting a MRI at my neurologists request and it was found out that I had a tumor growing in the area. It was painful! I did months of PT with no improvement.
I have had this for the past few years and my GP suspects it's arthritis (caveat - I broke my tailbone when I was 12). So yeah, I have butt arthritis... :\
Ortho or rheumatologist
Had this after a long plane ride and it lasted a few years, but it eventually went away on its own. I used donut pillow and chair pads. In general, I found that firmer chairs/couches were more comfortable. Sitting in bed was the worst. My doctor wasn't too helpful.
Could it be a pulled muscle or ligament from lifting (your toddler) or activity?
Duuuuude. That sucks. |
Spinal degeneration or arthritis will do that (it's not butt arthritis per PP, it's actually the end of your spine). I would go to a doctor. They will probably order a scan to take a look.
Shingles
What helped me was to press down the spine with my middle finger and when I got to the base/end, I felt a click. I still had aching for a day or two, but not the intense pain. All I can think of it that it was displaced. It took me several months before I figured it out (my donut pillow was my best friend then). It now happens every once in a while, and I click it back into place.
Bringing this back up because I'm having tailbone pain. I have disk disease in my lower spine. I started PT last week and the therapist said that tailbone pain isn't "usually" associated with my problem area. The lower back pain and tailbone pain hit me at the same time, so I believe they are related. Any thoughts, support and butt pillow hacks will be appreciated.
Could be a cyst.
Could be a pilonidal cyst. They can become infected and inflamed. My husband had one years ago and it was terrible painful but easily treatable.
How is that diagnosed? I was examined thoroughly.... I had an x ray which showed the disk disease. The ortho said it was a pinched nerve, wrote prescriptions and ordered PT. He wasn't very talkative, but assured me that I would feel better and be able to sit normally again. The PT said that, if the tailbone pain persists after treatment, he'd refer me to a pelvic floor specialist. I have noticed improvement in both my back and tailbone. It just hurts to sit w/out a donut pillow. |
There must have been at least 3-4 tailbone pain posts this week. COVID related? (not COVID itself but sitting etc?)
