I don’t know about VCU (other than that its art school is highly regarded) but I can say from experience at another university that it can be hard (though not impossible) to do a double major or dual degree if the arts major is a BFA (as opposed to a BA). Studio classes tend to be longer than other classes, which makes it hard to have enough time in the week to schedule non-arts classes. It’s somewhat easier with a BA rather than a BFA because there is generally less studio time required, but not all schools offer a BA track in addition to a BFA track. Ask questions re how many kids in the art program do double majors (and how many of them graduate in 4 years), and can a student get credit for AP classes/tests (if applicable) since that can help with credit hours in the early years.
