MD ranked 38th and VA 46th in vaccine distribution

Yikes. Ranked as % of received vaccines that have been distributed.

vaccine distribution is an embarrassment. I can't believe state leadership across America has been this lame. It's a sad day for states' rights.

These rankings must have hit a nerve.
Hogan is speaking on vaccines live tonight at 5pm

Pathetic.

It really is disgraceful!

How is Connecticut doing so well?!? (and I'm from CT)

Ugh, even New York and New Jersey are doing better than Maryland.

Thanks to the OP for a very useful site.
And it seems to update daily. The rankings have changed since early this morning.

Disgraceful numbers for Maryland. Why are they not better organized.

Organization isn’t the problem. It’s that they’ve limited eligibility to a ridiculous extent. They haven’t opened it up to teachers or 65+, like other states have.

Agreed! But even states who have opened it up 75+ and no teachers are doing dramatically better.

Virginia is not doing well any way you look at it IMO, but states drop on lists of % dosages administered every time they get a large allotment of vaccine. I’ve watched Virginia drop to the bottom and gradually work its way up the list (closer to the middle, anyway) a couple of times.

I have also wondered why MD is doing so poorly, and part of it seems to be that there are just not that many doses per capita, which is making the decision-making harder.

The states doing the very best at distribution are largely (not exclusively) sparsely populated. That is, they got more vaccines per person than Maryland or New York or Virginia.

If you know you have enough, maybe it's easier to just decide to "put vaccines in arms" but if you have scarcity, you are evaluating every dose to ensure it's going to the right person.

I think a lot of doses are trapped in hospitals that have only administered a third of what they got. Time to claw those back. This is so frustrating.

This is definitely where Maryland messed up

CT and RI rank in the top 5 for population density and yet they are doing so much better than MD
