Those delivering at Georgetown--pre-registration question

Anonymous
When I delivered my DD at Georgetown 2.5 years ago, we had to go to the registration area and sit down with one of the employees as they entered our information into the computer. I just went last week to do the same and said "I'm here to register for Labor and Delivery" and he looked at my pregnant belly and asked "ARE YOU IN LABOR??"

and I said no, I'm here to pre-register. He looked surprised and said that it's not necessary.

Anyone else have the same experience? Just worried that he was mistaken and when I show up they won't accept me though I am part of the OB practice there.

thanks!

I'm also delivering at Georgetown and at our labor and delivery class they handed our preregistration forms that they told us to fill out and hand in at the outpatient registration desk on the first floor of the main hospital by the chapel next time we're at the hospital for a check-up. They made it sound like this was important to do now so that when I am in labor they will just let me go straight up to labor and delivery. Hope that helps.

I delivered at Georgetown a month ago. I also received my prenatal care there. My OB told me that I did not have to pre register. I simply showed up at L & D shortly after my water broke and everything was taken care of. I guess they already have all the information from the prenatal visits. Check with you OB - I did and he said that I did not have to.

I did not register for either of my deliveries. They took care of all of it on L & D.

I am also delivering at G-town. Would prefer preregistration though - might be a bit tough when in labor I hope they have this option.

I delivered at GUH last October. It took the tour a couple months before delivery and was provided with a pre-registration form, which I mailed-in. It's a very simple form. You can also call-in to pre-register. The phone number is provided on the GUH website.

When I went into labor, I arrived at the hospital around 1am. I went to the emergency entrance and was immediately escorted upstairs. There was no additional paperwork. Heck, I don't even remember having to show them any I.D.

I delivered at GUH 2.5 years ago, but I definitely had to show my ID and the insurance card (and I did pre-register). I would not leave the house without either of them.

OP here, thanks everyone. I'll def. have my ID and insurance card and I'll call the OB office this afternoon to confirm what I need to do. Strange that there are different answers, though!

I left the house without my ID - imagine this - they still let me in to deliver

In addition, I NEVER showed them ID as my husband did not bring my wallet to the hospital during my stay.

I delivered #1 at GUH in spring 2008. I had to be admitted last week at GUH with #2 for pregnancy complications in L&D and they said I was still in the computer so if you are already in there, I don't think you need to re-pre-register for the second time around.

I had a check-up at Gtown today so I asked Dr. Gorman. She said you definitely DO need to complete and submit the pre-registration form. Hope that helps.

I called the registration number 202.444.3180 and asked to pre-register over the phone. They asked me for my name, birth date, due date, and last menstrual period date and said they'd take care of it. Apparently they have all the other information since I'm being seen in the OB practice. Not sure if this preregistration call was necessary or not, but now it's done! Hope that helps.

OP again. Thanks everyone! Glad to hear Dr. Gorman is back from her travels, she's my OB too!

And what number does one actually need to call when the labor starts? OB/GYN regular number? or anything else? or does one just show up at the door of L&D when the contractions are strong enough?
