The jobs bill vote

Anonymous
Thirteen Republicans voted for the jobs bill today. In addition to the five who voted for cloture, there were Alexander (TN), Cochran (MS), Inhofe (OK), Lemieux (FL), Murkowski (AK) and Wicker (MS), who had voted against cloture, and Senators Burr (NC) and Hatch (UT) who did not take part in the cloture vote. Since 40 votes are needed for cloture no matter how many or how few vote against it, not voting is equivalent to voting against cloture (with forgiveness given to Frank Lautenberg, hospitalized with cancer), so there are eight Republicans who appear to have wanted to kill the bill, but to get credit for it as long as it was going to pass anyway.

Anyone have another explanation for the switches?

They were against it before they were for it.

Yeah, I was surprised when I saw the final vote. I thought it would closer than the "fillibuster vote". After 20 years I still do not understand the political process in this country.

It's socialism and I helped protect you by trying to block the vote. Oh, and don't forget I voted for it to help those of you who are jobless. I'm always there for you!

Now to reconcile the 15B senate bill with the 154B house bill. 15B looks downright restrained next to the House.
