sleeping on back and maternity pillow

Anonymous
I'm a back sleeper and I'm about at that point where I have to (from what I've read) begin to sleep on my side. I've been trying to do so but this is incredibly difficult for me. I thought maybe a pregnancy pillow will help keep me on my back. I'd love to hear suggestions from people. Thanks so much!

Check in with your ob. My OB recently told me to sleep however is most comfortable. If I'm on my back for too long, I'll know it I'll adjust.

You don't have to be completely on your side, just best not to be completely flat on your back for a long period. You can use either regular pillows, small throw pillows, or a body/maternity pillow to tuck behind on one side to keep you at least a little tilted (you may also need one under your belly to keep you balanced)...Find aposition that is most comfortable for you and get as much sleep as you can while it lasts!

I'm a back sleeper as well and was having a hard time transitioning to sleeping on my side. I ordered the Preggle Body Pillow from Target and it has helped tremendously! I highly recommend it - I sleep great throughout the night and most importantly on my side.

I have a snoogle and it has been a godsend. I've been able to stay on my left side for most of the night without waking up. I am getting some of the best sleep during my pregnancy and I owe it all to the snoogle. That being said, having the snoogle in bed with us has been "mood" killer.

OP here - thanks so much for the advice!

I second the snoogle. It became my best friend especially in the 3rd trimester. Truthfully I was sad to see it retire to the garage after the baby was born... (husband feels differently, though)

I also have to add, I recently got to that stage where you're not supposed to sleep on your back and was wondering the same things.

I noticed that all of a sudden it was just extremely uncomfortable to lay on my back for too long. I feel like I'm being crushed. I think you'll know when it's not safe anymore to be on your back.
