My feet are a mess! Is there a lotion or treatment you use and love that will help get them sandal ready? TIA
|
| Soak them for a while then while still damp apply a thick cream (Burts Bees and the Body Shop make ones for feet that smell nice), then wear socks to bed. Once a week or so, use a pumice after soaking. You should be good to go. A lotion has a lot of water, you want something very thick, but it is most effective on soaked, damp skin. |
| I use a file (it looks like a rasp) to remove dead skin at least 3 times per week. I recently started using AmLactin, a lotion you can get at CVS, which contains lactic acid (an exfoliant). After I shower, I use the file. I then put AmLactin on my soles and heels, then immediately cover with socks. It has made a huge difference - my feet used to look awful, and now they're smooth and soft. |

My feet are 100% better after a few weeks of using a pumice in the shower, and then slathering on Aquaphor under socks. Of course, I'm SAHM and have been wearing mostly Danskos and snowboots for the past couple of months, so that's easy to do. If you have to wear dressier shoes, I would still put on a lighter lotion. The trick is just to do something every day.
I recently bought AmLactin at Coscto but haven't started using it yet, glad to hear it works. |

All of the above but use a Diamondcel foot file. Also helps to have a professional pedicure with an exfoliation treatment.
Most importantly, you need to maintain on a regular basis. Heels should be buffed daily in the shower. |
| I use a file daily in the shower and also use Earth Therapeutics Tea Tree Oil Gentle Foot Peel once or twice a week (it has alpha-hydroxy in it and peels away the dead skin). I apply a thick lotion for overnight with socks. Finally, I try to wear socks or slippers all the time instead of going barefoot in the house. |
| Good Dog Almighty no wonder I have such ridiculous looking cracked and dry feet. Every day filing? Please share with me what else you have time for every day -- I need to know the list of reasons why other women are so much better groomed than me! |
OP here; this was not me. I really appreciate everyones feedback! Definately going to look into the products mentioned, invest in a pumice & moisturize with socks. I am glad to know that my feet are not the only ones not ready for viewing. |
19:21 here. It actually goes by pretty fast. When I say I do this about 3 times per week, that means that every day I tackle one foot. Seriously, it adds about 2 minutes to my morning routine. For me, it's worth it, because those dry and cracked heels were starting to get painful and bleed. For me, it's comfort as well as vanity, and it's a fairly quick fix to something that was driving me crazy. |
| I spend about 30 seconds in the shower every morning with one of those big purple pumice blocks. No need for "extra" time - just incorporate it into your routine as you do brushing your teeth. |
do you file the heels as well? or just soles? |
| PP here. I use the Diamencel (sp?) file for anything rough or calloused but especially for heels. They offer a variety of files and they are not inexpensive but do last a lifetime and are absolutely the best on the market. Use them on DRY feet to maximize smoothing. |
I do this too - we must have the same purple pumice block! Once you get them in decent shape, it is easier to maintain without too much effort. It's when you're starting out with horrible, dry, cracked "hooves" that you have to put some time and effort in. I just quickly do the pumice in the shower, and moisturize/wear socks as much as possible. |

Totally agree with pp. The purple pumice block is called Mr. Pumice and you can get it at a nail salon. So much better than those hard stone-like grey pumic stones.
I use that in the shower and then have the Diamencel file for when I need it - or for travel. Glytone Heel and Elbow cream is also magnificent. |
