Husband’s Bad Social

Anonymous
DH has a habit that drives me insane. He is TERRIBLE about getting back to people. People will call him, text him and email him but he will take days, weeks and sometimes months to respond.

Sometimes it comes up in conversation where I will mention a friend of ours and he will say “Oh yeah, he texted my for our plumber’s recommendation some time back and I guess I should text him back.” Well, “some time back” is 2 MONTHS before!

I on the opposite end of the spectrum. I try to respond within “a reasonable” amount of time (within a day or two where the requests are specific and urgent in nature). If life gets in the way and something slips through the crack, I at least apologize to the person.

I used to turn a blind eye before and brushed it off as dynamics between HIS friends and family of origin but now it is really bugging me as we have more family/couple friends.

The most recent example: A family friend called him and asked if we want to go see Christmas lights at an outdoor park two weeks ago and of course he didn’t respond. I wouldn’t have known about it until the friend texted me in a group chat and asked what we had decided. The supposed trip was to happen today.

It irritates me because it reflects poorly on our family and I don’t want us to seem disinterested and flaky in relationships with others. Plus, I wouldn’t want to be treated this way by another. How do I get this through his thick skull?

The weird thing is that he is super successful in his career and doesn’t treat his clients this way. It’s only like this with personal relationships. How does one deal with such a personality?

Oops. I accidentally posted this after I thought my last post didn’t go through. How does one delete a post?

Well, there's your answer.
My husband is a dentist. He has a thriving practice, his patients adore him and sing his praises, you can't find a single bad thing about him online, if someone calls him for advice, he always takes the call... never pawns them off.

At home, he shuts down.
He doesn't like looking at the phone, email, or text messages, gre just wants to chill with the kids & veg out.

He is a total introvert, and so being "on" as we call it all day long is totally exhausting for him.
Seeing him at work and seeing him at home, you'd think you were seeing someone with schizophrenia, he's that polar opposite.

It may be the same for your husband... just ask him.
