98% of children aged 0 – 8 years spend more than 2 hours/day on screens

Shockingly high. Are you in the 2%?

Huh? Isn't that what we call "school" these days?

I’m guessing this is pre-COVID and it’s actually much, much higher now.

Well I was until a pandemic swept the earth...

Yes, this stat is pre-Covid. Though, how much higher could it get!

It's mandatory.

I love stats like this because it makes me feel like an amazing parent even though my kid watches TV every day. I mean, she wasn't watching TV as a baby! And we at least limit it most days. But I don't think we could do no screens at all. We will never be in the 2% and I'm fine with it.

It also leads me to believe that when friends say their kid gets "almost no screen time" they mean their kid gets an hour or two of screen time a day. The way people talk it's like their kids are never on screens and that's obviously not true, it's just that a lot of people feel pressure to make it seem like it.

Also, hello, I'm on DCUM right now enjoying some relaxation after a full day of work followed by an hour at the playground because my child is happily watching episode after episode of Bluey. Thanks Disney+!

I mean yeah now during the pandemic. Pre-pandemic we did no screens on weekdays and about 5 hours over the course of the weekend (Friday afternoon through Sunday evening)

How is it shocking? Growing up we had TV and video games.

I don't care how long my child is on it as long as they do their schoolwork, activities, music practice and exercise.

My kid is in preschool, which makes things easier.

I just looked on the screen time app on her tablet and it says a daily average of 1 hr 21 min. Obviously she watches more on the weekends than during the week. I’m happy with that average.

A lot. My kid has remote school that keeps him on screens about 5-6 hours a day. He is actually SUPPOSED to be on screens now.

2 hours a day? How about 6?

I guess I'm in the 2%, but only because my kid is only 2. Doesn't have the attention span for a lot more, honestly (plus I still usually have childcare, except during current COVID spike). I feel like i probably watched 2 hours of tv/screens a day as a kid in the early 1980s....

Both my ES kid and my toddler spend far more on screens thanks to what the pandemic has wrought. What can we do?

Wow. My kids watch an hour a day. We paid for in person private so there is no zoom school.
