Did you take antibiotics before and after HSG?

I was given a prescription to take some and was wondering why?

i think i took them before, can't remember if i took them after.
i guess since they are shooting dye into your uterus and tubes, they want to prevent infection...??
i definitely took mine...but i really don't know why they prescribe them.

It is very important to take the antibiotics pre/post HSG to prevent a tubal infection. There are normal flora bacteria in the vagina that could be damaging if they got into the uterus and tubes when the catheter is put through the cervix with the dye.

Nope. Wasn't prescribed any. The HSG lasted only a few minutes, and I had no side effects at all. Good luck to you!

I wasn't prescribed any and didn't take any. No problems. I had some discomfort during the procedure and minor cramping after but everything was fine.
