Haven’t been to the dentist in over a year - think kids have cavities now!

Anonymous
We haven’t been to the dentist since last fall (I think) and now I one of my kids has a cavity. I feel horrible! We haven’t been to a doctor (other than well visits) or inside a store since February 2020. I thought that is what we were suppose to do.

At this point, I don't think I've seen any guidance where it's been recommended to avoid medical appointments that are required to maintain our general health and well-being. I think canceling a dentist appointment at the early stages of COVID was wise, but we are well past the point where we can attend these appointments safely. Time to go back to the dentist and annual exams, mammograms, colonoscopy, etc.

Personally, I think avoiding a store since February is overkill, but starting back to the doctor is a safe start.

Sorry your kids have cavities, it sure does suck (BTDT).

I agree. Also, if you've taken your kids for well visits, it doesn't really make sense that you would avoid the dentist.

This.

My kids’ first pandemic doctor visit was the dentist.

It’s funny. We are adopting and have to tick a lot of boxes to show we are good parents (the prior 3 kids don’t count I guess). It’s not just that we get brownie points for taking DS to the dentist in a pandemic, we’d be in trouble if we didn’t.

Two of my kids have only been to one doctor appointment each since February (well visit) - I thought we were suppose to avoid going into places with kids. Op here

Yeah you should probably get them to the dentist. Go to one of the first appointments in the morning. Ask if they are using hydrogen peroxide washes. My dentist also sprays a hypocholorous solution.

Don’t feel too bad, it happens, but you should take them.

Medical visits for your kids is not the same as the mall.

This. I did see conflicting guidance, so I understand how it happened. But now take the kids. The dentists' offices have protective proceedures and gear down by now.

It’s been a crazy time so don’t feel too bad, but get your kids to the dentist ASAP. Our kids dentist was closed and then opened up in June. My kids have each been twice now (June and December) but it’s been over a year for my husband and me - we were just talking about if we should go soon.

Omg like the post office and target. But not necessary medical appointments! Come on. Regular dental care prevents cavities which are not only unhealthy but require LONGER and/or MORE dental visits and hence more exposure. Hopefully they were baby teeth. I’m sorry but you made a poor decision.

+1. My kid has not been in a grocery since this started, but we did dentist and well visits over the summer. I also got a cavity filled over the summer. It's ok, go.

What’s done is done. Don't listen to this PP who is trying to shake you. Just take them ASAP.

Not the OP but well doctor visits are very different than dental visits with regards to an airborne virus.

Other than emergencies, we put off doc appts until the summer (unless they could be tele-visits). My kids have been to the ortho numerous times and the dentist twice since May. I still don’t have them go to any stores (and I only do grocery shopping once a week at 6 am when they open). I think it’s fine for you to make dentist appts now. I would absolutely do it.
