Infertility Support and Discussion
| Has anyone seen a RE and skipped clomid as the first protocol? It seems like everyone is on it. Thanks. |
|
I did clomid, but my advice to anyone who is ovulating but not conceiving would be to skip clomid, or at least make your RE explain why he does not agree with skipping it.
Clomid thins your lining, so it is actually implantation less likely and it gets worse with each cycle. If you are not ovulating, then I think clomid makes sense it is a cheap way to induce ovulation. |
| I was never on Clomid. I went straight to injectibles with timed intercourse. I was under the impression that Clomid was for younger women and women who don't ovulate. I was 40 when I started seeing an RE. I'm now starting my second IVF cycle. |

i never had to take it. went straight to injectables.
i don't ovulate on my own.. |
| Most REs will skip it. One exception is if you have PCOS and don't ovulate. Even then, clomid is not always the first line treatment. If you are of AMA, then I would suggest skipping it. It can mess with your cycles and it does thin the lining. |
| Agree. I'm not sure it makes any sense for older women who ovulate. Except that it's cheap, so a lot of people are lured by that. But even in that case, I'd suggest Femara instead as a first step. Injectables would probably be best. |
| Well, since our major problem is male factor, Clomid would not have helped me at all. We went straight to IVF/ICSI. |

16:28 i just wanted to reiterate that i do not ovulate (never have) and i skipped clomid and went straight to injectables (menopur & HCG) which contradicts what some of the posters are saying...
i always thought clomid was to help regulate your cycles, and yes is very cost effective. |
| Yes, we did the same. Clomid isn't for everyone. |
