| Back in October, ILs asked me to make a wish list with the kids. We made it and sent it. ILs bought everything on the list, plus each kid got this annoying voice changing machine. https://www.amazon.com/Toysmith-Changer-6-5-Inch-Various-Colors/dp/B000FK3WDC/ref=asc_df_B000FK3WDC/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=198057019652&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=3527799841298301170&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9016908&hvtargid=pla-370904410515&psc=1 It feels deliberate to annoy us, and to me, the type of thing you’d ask the parents about first, especially right now when we are all cooped up together with energy to burn. They got them Christmas Eve and I already want to throw them away. Told kids upstairs in their rooms with doors closed only, but I can still hear the trill. These annoying toys are all they want to do. I put limits in place but they keep begging. I’m ready to lose it! Can I throw them away without hurting ILs? |
|
You really need to crowdsource this? Whatever decision you make will be the right one, up to an including throwing them out. |
|
There is no way your in-laws did this to annoy you. Thoughtless? Sure. Malicious? No way.
I’d put the device on time out. 30 minutes a day. |
| You are being ridiculous . Learn to ignore the sound. It was obviously a home run if they love to play with them so much. Let the kids be kids. |
| How old are your kids? I'd tell mine it's driving me insane and they either need to find a place to do it where I can't hear (and I'd put in headphones if necessary to help!) or I was taking it away for a while. |
| Can they be kept at your ILs' house to play with there? I always tell my son that anything I give the grandkids, can be kept at our house if they don't want it for whatever reason. I gave a Furby a few years ago and it stays here. I think it's cute, but it annoys all the other adults. |
| Batteries in this type of toy die pretty quickly. Wait for the battery to die and then don’t replace them. |
Don't be so sure. My MIL buys things we don't allow and tells the kids "your mom is going to kill me". She is normal in every other way, I'm not sure why she does this. |
| I bet the phase will pass quickly. Just hold on a few more days. |
This. Batteries die soon, toy disappears |
| The batteries will die. Then put the them away, Make them toys to be played with at Grandma's house. |
| Lord have mercy. Why did you have kids? Didn't you realize that kids can be noisy sometimes. Obviously your in-laws chose a great gift that your kids love. Why would you throw it out? The novelty will wear off. |
| Hide it behind the TV or some such. Oh noooooo, it’s lost. If they miss it a ton, you can find it but out usage limits on it. Go take a walk while they play with it! |
This. They got them because kids thinks they are fun. Clearly they were right in their thought that the kids would enjoy it. By the way, we have one (also purchased by my inlaws) that e kids were briefly obsessed with and then got board with. It goes untouched for months at a time. |
| They got everything on YOUR list PLUS a gift that your kids are enjoying that you didn't specify. You sound pretty fortunate to me. |
