Do you drink alcohol when visiting with family -- and how much?

Come on in.

I used to drink tons with my in-laws. I am socially awkward and feel like everyone hates me, but then I quit drinking. They all drink a lot and I don’t like them any better sober. My own family doesn’t drink much so that’s great.

When we get to my in-laws’, DH goes straight for the drink fridge to fix us beverages. It’s tradition!

Wait til everyone is asleep and then drink from their cabinet in a coffee cup.

I don’t. When I drink I literally cannot stop thinking about smoking. So I wait until everyone is asleep then go out back and have a drink and a couple smokes.

No, I hardly drink at all!

No but we don't have a culture of drinking in my family, ie family dinners and gatherings don't include wine, weddings are dry etc. The adult parties have alcohol though. We aren't an especially religious bunch so not sure why. I actually didn't know until I was an adult that wine and alcohol at family meals and weddings was a thing. LOL

I’ll have a couple drinks most nights, up to 4-5 on the main holiday.

My dad’s girlfriend is way fun. We’ll drink until 2am and swapping stories about our psycho ex-husbands and making dirty jokes.

I usually don’t drink more than one drink, maybe 2 if kids are in bed and I really like the drink.

Yes. A metric shit-ton.

I didn't at first. Then my SIL who married into the family years before I did, suggested I just be myself and drink if I wanted to. And since they, I do. Not too much but 2-3 drinks.

With my in-laws, a lot. Until one year it hit me all of a sudden and I had to run into their backyard to puke. Since then I stick to a couple.

+1

My FIL knows what kind of booze I like and always keeps me in mind. And I bring my own just in case.

Same when he visits us. He's my favorite .
