Big Law— how many hours this year?

Anonymous
I have just over 2100 hours of billable time this year. That’s a lot more than my typical. I was terrified of being laid off (still am) and I didn’t have to deal with commuting and kid activities so I was more productive. Anyone else in a similar position?

2100 is kind of low, but acceptable

Op here. I should have noted that I’m not an associate or a partner. My bonus eligible requirement is 1800.

Mine were about the same, a little lower than what I usually do but the first month or two coming back from maternity leave in a WFH environment were slower than usual.

Op, what's your usual bonus?

Biglaw associate here. I finished in the 2150 range which is a couple hundred lower than I’ve averaged over the last few years. Got market and special bonus.

I’m confused. You’re a staff attorney but get a bonus? Or counsel?

I’m seriously impressed big law parents logged that many hours. I left big law for gov right before the pandemic and was so glad I did. I was very unproductive from March until July when camps opened and even now with paying for private in person schools the schools have crazy hours and close periodically. I generally work from 9-2:30 and then an hour at night. My agency gives us 20 hours of covid leave each pay period. I could not have managed big law this year! Man I miss that bonus though

OP here. Staff attorney who gets a bonus once I pass 1800hrs. Bonus gets larger the more hours past 1800. I normally only manage 1850-1900 though I have worked up to 2400/yr.

Wow. Was it because you did not have to commute and worked doing those periods? That is crazy.
