Breastfeeding but face needs a pick-me-up -- what can I ask doc to use?

Anonymous
I am 7 months into breastfeeding and will likely be breastfeeding for several more months. I would love to have a few of these darn laugh lines erased but I don't know what's safe while breastfeeding.

Suggestions?

I've heard that Botox is out of the question. What about Restalyn?

As much as I would like to weigh in, it is best for you to schedule a visit to the doc and get the professional's advice. Most of them don't charge for an initial consultation.

unfortunately most things are out while BF. Have you tried make-up alternatives, like face primers?

Are lasers out while BF?

Maybe lasers, but I went to the derm right around when you did and she said that most stuff (even Clearasil) was off-limits during BFing.

If it were me, I'd ask my doc for Retin-A. But not tell him I was breastfeeding. I would never use Retin-A during pregnancy, but I feel comfortable with it while BF'ing. I'd be surprised if you found a doc who would prescribe it if s/he knew you were BF'ing.

I would NOT advise this. There's a reason they won't prescribe it.

Obviously, everyone needs to assess their own comfort level with this. I'm not concerned about it while BF'ing. It's about the only thing I would use, though, in addition to maybe salicylic acid and alpha hydroxy acid products, and of course sunscreen. I wouldn't go with Botox or Restylane.

OP, you could try drinking lots of water and really upping the proportion of non-starchy vegetables and fruits in your diet. It's not going to make a dramatic overnight difference, but it will make a difference.

my mother used to use beaten egg whites on her face before an event and it was like an instant facelift...no lie, it was seriously amazing.

My derm prescribed it while I was breast-feeding, and she said she used it while BF as well. It is just during pregnancy that it is contra-indicated. Kellymom.com agrees with this, too.

Glycolic acid face cleanser.

Acceptance. Anything else looks fake and plastic and over time makes you look older than you would have should you age naturally.
