What diposable diaper system/pail do you recommend?

I'm a horrible person for using disposable diapers so if you want to bash me for using disposables so be it.

I used a Diaper Champ for DD who's 25 months old and am expecting a boy in May. Liked the Diaper Champ since it used regular kitchen trash bags so I never had to worry about buying something specific for the disposal system, which was very convenient. However, as DD got older and was no longer BF and eating solids even when we only disposed of pee diapers the amonia smell would knock you out. Is this the case with all pails after they reach a certain stage/age? I got rid of my Diaper Champ at least 8 months ago and just throw everything in the trash now, but with a newborn I'd rather have a pail in his room for the late night changings.

Many thanks for the recommendations.

How about a metal can with a lid?

We use cloth, so that suggestion is totally out of left field perhaps -- I just know that all plastic will stink with time, as it will absorb odors.

I second the recommendation for a metal can with a lid. Our's has a foot pedal and we use plastic grocery bags in it. We empty it once every day or two. Six years and three kids later, it still works like a charm.

I third the suggestion for a metal can. We got one from the Container Store. It's awesome.

Use anything but plastic, which always absorbs the odors. We use an old wicker laundry hamper lined with kitchen trash bags. Because it's not plastic, it doesn't absorb the stink, even after almost 2 years with twins. Metal is great too.

We never had that problem with the Diaper Champ, except when emptying it. I put a box of baking soda in it between the bag and the can. That may have helped. And make sure the bag isn't breaking the seal between the lid and the can.

Urine is smellier if it is more concentrated. Could be insufficient fluids were making for smellier pee.

We kept our Diaper Champ and it now holds bags of dog poop in the garage until trash day.

Not the dekor! It worked while DS was breastfed but once he moved on to solids it stunk up the house. We bought the diaper geenie ll & it is working better but not perfect. We also have #2 on the way and #1 is 22 months.

I liked my Dekor Plus. Didn't have stink issues (but most people don't know that you're supposed to dump the poop in the toilet). I did have a part on it break, but I called the company and the replaced it quickly.

I like the Diaper Champ too and haven't had the problem with smell. I buy those baking soda things that you can hang inside your fridge or freezer and put one at the bottom of the pail (outside the bag). It has a color strip to indicate when it's odor-controlling power is gone, and I tend to change it every 3-4 weeks.

You're supposed to dump the poop in the toilet with the Diaper Dekor? Why did I even buy that stupid thing?

I had one and while I dumped the poop in the toilet (when I could) it still stunk after a while. Plan on trying a metal can next time around.

New poster here. It's not the Diaper Dekor--I think the PP meant in general that really we're all "supposed" to be dumping poop from diapers into toilet before disposing of the diapers for environmental reasons because it's safer to have human waste processed in our sanitation systems than disposed of in landfills. Human waste in landfills makes it into ground water, etc. etc.

Extra plastic grocery bags hanging on a handle of the changing table. Take them out when they get stinky or every couple of days- if you wrap diapers tightly up, they really don't smell that bad.
I think diaper pails and liners are a complete waste of money.

Taking out the trash regularly. Seriously. The self-wrapping things are too complicated and don't work any better than the extra grocery bag concept.
