I’ve been using the AM moisturizer for a couple of years ago and never bothered to look at the ingredients until recently. I’m disappointed to see it does contain parabens. Do you think it’s harmful to continue using the product or is there a good replacement for it? I really like it otherwise! Why haven’t they gotten with the times?! |
You will not find a good scientific study that demonstrates parabens are harmful to humans. |
There is a a natural paraben free lotion very similar to CeraVe called Caramedx.

If you take a look at EWG
https://www.ewg.org/ The Cerave line is generally low risk. I'm also concerned about parabens and other additives in cosmetics but have just switched over to a whole bunch of Cerave products. |
This. Please do not buy into the bogus claims about “clean beauty” and “toxic” ingredients. |
I'm this PP. To add, I have tried the body lotion of this which is comparable to cerave moisturizing lotion. I like it and it is nice, but I still prefer cervave. I am very health conscience and avoid parabens in other cosmetics, but I still use cerave from time to time when my face is irritated or needs a break from other other products. It is just too good to abandon all together. |
OP here thank you! I feel much better about my beloved cerave! |
Cerave is what my dorm uses herself, and I figure she knows a lot more about this stuff than I do. (She also uses and recommends Elta MD sunscreen.) |
Can someone ELI5 what the big deal is about parabens? |
+1. I used to be concerned about parabens, but my dermatologist said they weren't really an issue (she was more concerned about the microscopic plastic we are consuming). |
They are (suspected? Believed? Known?) to be endocrine disrupters. My endocrine system is already totally fcked up (my beard says hello), so I avoid them like the plague just in case. I do not need any additional help in that regard. |

+1 Granted, I do find Cerave to be extremely overrated. |
