One follicle with 50mg clomid - inrease dose or go to injectibles?

3 rounds of clomid are resulting in one dominant follicle. 3 IUIs and BFN. RE recommending I go to injectables but would it be better to just increase does of clomid? I am 43.

At 43 you have no time to waste. Go to injectables. I tried clomid and IUIs with no success. One round of IVF and I now have 2-month DS. injectables are no fun, but they work! Good luck.

I didn't respond well to clomid (only one or two follicles), so after 2 months I went to injectibles with timed intercourse, no IUI. Got pregnant the first month. I was super scared of the shots, but it really wasn't that bad. I would definitely do it again, and I would recommend it.

I would go to IVF. There is research out of Dartmouth showing that patients who skip IUI w/injectibles get pregnant faster and spend less $$$ than those who do several rounds of IUI w/injectibles. Also, at 43, I'd make sure you are seeing a doctor who specializes in older /high FSH patients. good luck!!!!!!!!!

I would go straight to IVF. I was in your shoes and looking back I wish I hadn't wasted so much time on multiples IUIs. We got pregnant with our first IVF.

I obviously don't know your medical history, but I'm surprised that at your age your RE had you do 3 rounds on a low dose of clomid, especially when you didn't respond well after the first try. My understanding is that the standard practice is to use injectibles (or all injectibles) with women over 40.

Also surprised you started at 50mg & for 3 cycles.

I'm 39 and they started me at 100mg clomid + an FSH injection. Turned out we had to taper down to 50mg, but my RE said in my age range, they always start out with a 100mg dose of clomid along with a dose of injectible FSH b/c the odds are that most of us AMAs will not do much on 50mg of clomid alone.

At 43, I would definitely move on to injectibles if not IVF.

OP here - I stuck with clomid because my insurance covers it, but not injectables. So, I was hoping by increasing the dose of clomid, I would produce more follies and avoaid the injectables. Also, per insurance, I need to do 3 IUIs at 50% coverage before I can move on to IVF (at 100% coverage!).
