Woman threatening my family- what to do?

Anonymous
I am a gay man in a relationship for many years and have lived in this area since high school.

Forty years ago, I briefly dated a woman. I was confused and I did not mean to hurt her feelings. I broke it off before we graduated and never spoke to her again.

Her spouse died recently and my niece told me that this woman has been contacting her and threatening her. She has gone to the police but all she gets is emails and this woman’s friends threaten her verbally. My niece told me this. She never responds to the threats. I don’t reach out to this woman. She doxxed me recently. I had to hire someone to help me remove the fake information from the websites.

I don’t know what to do. She needs to leave my niece and my family alone.

Tell them to continue to go to the police.
Record anyone who gets close enough to hear verbal threats made to them.

Rinse and repeat.

What does being gay have to do with a niece being harassed by someone? Why is this post in this forum?

I don’t understand this post. How does this woman even know your niece, and why would she be harassing her. And the woman has her friends verbally threatening her? Like...because of her uncle briefly dating someone FORTY years ago?

There is more to this story that you’re not sharing because it would make you look bad. What did you really do?

This.
And I’m struggling to believe that this 60-something year old woman is just randomly picking out your niece to harass, along with others joining in with verbal threats. Something about the niece’s conduct is missing.

I did not do anything wrong and there is not a thread for these issues. Plus she says anti-gay things to my niece.

This woman knows my whole family. She grew up near us, went to the same schools

Thank you for this. This is helpful.

I don't think that there is anything that OP is leaving out. I was once the woman in this scenario. I was in love with a man that I dated. He broke my heart when he broke it off. I didn't realize that he was gay and he never disclosed it. It wasn't until after he died, that his obituary revealed to me the reality of our "love". I left it at that point and never contacted anyone. But in this case, the woman was bitter and felt made a fool of, it appears. She should not have taken any of these actions, they are criminal and morally wrong. But I can relate to her shock and her hurt. She should not be harassing anyone, however. Try to feel compassion for everyone in this scenario.
