Dog ate tomcat

Anonymous
Our 85 lb lab ate a green bar ( 1 oz) of Tom cat mouse poison. We took him to vet, they gave him toxiban. Also said there is no antidote and we basically have to hope based on his size and amount ingested, that he will be ok. Has anyone had this happen and the dog ended up okay? We are worried sick and feel so helpless.

Inducing vomiting won't help? You use hydrogen peroxide to do that. Google for dosage. Sorry this happened.

My dog ate one of the green brick rat poison when he was a puppy. He regurgitated it and the vet put him on a regimen of vitamin K which acts as a coagulate that counteracts the rat poison which thins the blood. He’s 6 years old now and healthy.

Call pet poison control and get their input!

Our lab puppy ingested rat poison. Poison control said it probably wasn’t enough to do damage, but vet induced vomiting anyway. Turns out he ate more than we thought. He was fine.

We were too late to induce vomiting. He ate it in the middle of the night, went to vet at 1030am . I think it’s so concerning because the poison is slow acting and causes neurological conditions and brain swelling. I feel like we are just waiting to see if anything happens. I appreciate the stories of dogs being fine though.

Get a second opinion if you’re concerned. I thought your dog ate an actual cat.

Me too! That would have been appalling. Still sad though. Hope he is ok, OP.

Appalling, but better for him.

Yes, I thought you had a ravenous cat-slayer on your hands, OP.

This is worse for your dog.

Please get another opinion and keep us updated!

We thought our dog ate some when he started randomly peeing blood 10 years ago. The vet gave him an injection of vitamin K. Surprised your vet hasn't done the same, but maybe toxiban is better?

Oh my god. I thought the title meant your dog ate an actual cat.

OP, any updates? I'm worried!

(And I too thought your dog ate a cat and would have felt fine about that. Like, sad, but people with outside cats insist that's what cats need and you can't fight nature)

Same. I was picturing a mastiff swallowing the local stray. I hope your dog is okay, OP. That is a really big dog so stands a good chance.
