NoVA parent be like “But we have to have that $1.8 million house in McLean because of the schoooooools, even though we can’t really afford it”.

Agree with PP. If you think that's a warning about picking a major, you didn't read the article.

It's about not incurring dept and making good lifestyle choices like living within your means.

Is this the CS troll?

That house in the photo is cute!

Alternatively, this could read as: parents, make sure you can pay 100% of education and a housing down payment on a starter house to get them on the property ladder.

Then your kids can study what they want and pursue their passions regardless of $$$ as long as they can pay their bills.

Sure if you don't know how to hustle. I'm an English major who has made over 100k since 27. I also love my career and have had several offers a year from various other managers.

+1

Articles like this make me want to save even more than we are now to give our kids a leg up in the world.

A new phone, a TV or a puppy is not a need. I remember when I first graduated with a great job back way back in the early 1990s, our date night was a 10 piece box of chicken wings from KFC and 3rd run movies $2/ticket. People need to spend commensurate with their pay and save for a rainy day.

This is not about people's chosen field of study or career. All of them made the same error - they simply spent more money than they made. It really is that easy.

What's wrong with an education major? Dr. Jill Biden, Ed.D., seems to be doing fine. So was Dr. Bill Cosby, Ed.D., before, you know.

I misread it that way too. I think the OP meant, what major in which you choose to be educated.

Two master degrees in low majors is not a wise choice.

low paying

A major isn't low-paying. A job is.

There are people with CS degrees working in tech support. There are executives with English majors.

Your major is the reason you have dept or can't manage your money. There are other factors involved.
